Interacting with Victims of On-Water Tragedies – Law Enforcement

As members of law enforcement, you often see victims of on-water tragedies on the worst days of their lives, and you don’t get to see what happens after. The way that you interact with these individuals and families, even the words that you use, will have a profound impact on their lives. Otte will speak to her personal interactions with law enforcement through her victimization, and advise on lessons learned.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)

Alex Otte is the National President of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. She came to MADD, and the boating and water safety community, after surviving a near-fatal crash caused by an intoxicated boater in 2010 when she was just 13 years old. As a result of the crash, Alex was in a coma for a week and suffered numerous life threatening and lifelong injuries. She has since dedicated her life to fighting for a day when no other child is forced to face such a tragedy, on the roadway or the waterway.
